Mormon Transhumanist Association to Present in Second Life

Uvvy Island, Second Life

James Hughes will present his paper “The Compatibility of Religious and Transhumanist Views of Metaphysics, Suffering, Virtue and Transcendence in an Enhanced Future” (PDF)

Extropia DaSilva, a “transhumanist avatar” who writes some of the best mind expanding stuff about first and second life, the universe and everything, will give a talk in text.

William Sims Bainbridge will speak on the future of religion.

Giulio Prisco will summarize his article/book precis ”Engineering Transcendence.”

Lincoln Cannon will speak on behalf of the Mormon Transhumanist Association.

This will be one of the last Uvvy Island events using text chat as the main conversation mode. One or two of the speakers will use relatime video and voice. Participants will ask questions by text chat, and speakers will answer by text, voice or video.

	Brent Allsop said: It sounds like they will eventually have “sound” in second life? But not before the religion/transhumanism conference Sunday. But I saw something about audio of speakers being broadcast on some other system? Does anybody know about this, and what audio system will be used? I’m setting up a multi homing system for my home, primarily to have complete redundancy for the Canonizer. So I have both Comcast and DSL high speed internet. It would be fun to use Comcast for the second life, and maybe quest for the audio? If anyone hears more details about how the audio will work, please let us know. April 25, 2007 8:01 AM

Everyone is welcome on Sunday! Most speakers will talk (voice) using our Shoutcast server. You guys don't worry about a thing just press Plan Music when you are in the conference room. 	Lincoln Cannon said: You will now be forced to install the new client. For me, the default setup of the client crashed. There are several suggestions for getting around crashes, here: http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=443 The one that ended up working for me was adding " -noaudio" to the end of the target specified in the shortcut to launch the client software.
