Scaled back one of my laptops to 60%, because it was running really hot and making me nervous.

I'll be at Disneyland for the next four days, and both laptops are going with me and will likely be powered down most of the time, so a drop in my RAC is to be expected.

We've slipped a bit in the Rosetta@home rankings.  Now we stand at 191 in Rosetta, and 2040 for BOINC as a whole.  We had peaked at 185.

As a team we have donated 1,479,529.87 points to the Rosetta@home project.  This is something to be proud of, whatever our rank.

    We are at 177.

Winter is soon upon us, and with the cold weather it is a great time to get those space heaters we call computers crunching some numbers!  ;)

Contributing to Rosetta@home is very easy.  Once you get past the initial setup it requires almost no work on your part.  If you decide that you need your computer back for a while as you watch a video or compress a dvd or whatever you can temporarily pause BOINC to ensure it doesn't compete for use of your processor.

Please join us in our effort.

    Forgot:

In BOINC you can also specify the number of cores of a multi-core processor you want to use.  If you have more than one core you can tell it more.  You can also tell it less, if you like.  And if you are afraid of overheating your processor or using too much energy you can give it a percentage of time to do work, and it will switch processing of your Rosetta work unit on and off to slow down processing.  The switching happens maybe every second or half a second or something.

The defaults are one core at 100%, I think.
