Jon Cheney, CEO of General AI Proficiency Institute

Join us for an evening with Jon Cheney as he leads a discussion on “AI and Creation,” exploring what it means to build, imagine, and become in an age of intelligent machines. Drawing from the GenAIPI Doctrine—that AI may assist, amplify, and accelerate, but must never replace human responsibility, judgment, creation, service, or becoming—Jon will invite us to consider how Latter-day Saints and transhumanists alike can approach these tools as collaborators rather than substitutes. Expect a thoughtful conversation about creative agency, the theology of co-creation, and the disciplines of critical thinking and purposeful work that keep us human as our capabilities expand. The principles at the heart of his framing echo recent counsel from Elder Gerrit W. Gong, whose call to preserve human responsibility and becoming will give the discussion a distinctly faithful resonance.

Jon Cheney is the Founder and CEO of the General AI Proficiency Institute (GenAIPI), an organization he launched in early 2025 to protect human agency, adaptability, and ownership in the age of AI. A software executive and lifelong technologist, Jon has spent more than two decades building technology companies and leading teams through digital transformation. Through GenAIPI, he works with organizations across industries as a fractional Chief AI Officer, installing internal AI capability rather than dependence—training leaders and teams to choose creation over consumption. He is widely recognized as a leading voice on AI leadership and human agency, and writes and speaks frequently on the conviction that the greatest risk of the AI era is not job loss, but the loss of what makes us human.
